I like John Dee. He’s a sixteenth century astrologer, scholar, magician … in fact, you can probably give the man a couple dozen titles and most of them would be true. He served as a advisor of sorts to Queen Elizabeth I. Writing for Boing Boing, Jason Louv makes a brief argument for Dee’s involvement of establishing the foundations for modern science and the European focus on North America. Stuff You Missed in History Class had a great episode on John Dee a few years ago too. If half of the stories about this man are true, he may be one of the most interesting humans to ever draw breath. I’d recommend to anyone to read up on his stories.
