I’ve been critical of “news” in the past. The quote marks are because people sharing their opinions about things that happen isn’t really news. It’s opinion.
The reporting I’m looking for should be boring.
Jimmy Williams’ DecodeDC podcast’s recent Episode 224: The Lie of the Year (featuring PolitiFact’s editor Angie Drobnic Holan) includes a short conversation towards the end about news sources that are perceived to be as free of bias as humanly possible. The one that came up that I’ve been listening to is PBS NewsHour.
It’s pretty boring. Most of it is just factual reporting of world events. They’ll frequently have a couple people on to have a back and forth over an issue, but in a week of listening, it seems like the PBS forum doesn’t attract firebrands. It’s all been intelligent, civil discourse.
Give it a try. It’s a breath of fresh air.
